Xavier Siebert
Profile
I was trained as a physics engineer from ULB, Belgium and hold a PhD in biophysics from the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA). My thesis work focused on the determination of the three-dimensional structure of proteins using X-ray crystallography and on molecular dynamics simulations of proteins analyzed by statistical mechanics. Afterwards I moved to France to work as a post-doctoral researcher at the CNRS on software development (image processing and applied mathematics) for interfacing X-Ray crystallography and Electron Microscopy, where I developed the UROX sotfware.
In 2008 I joined the MathRO group at UMons, as part of the numediart project. I am working on the content-based organization of multimedia databases. My work thus involves applied mathematics (data mining) and image processing.
I also contribute to some classes (Calculus, Numerical Analysis, Graph Theory, Data Mining).
My current interests are mostly in
- mathematics applied to digital image processing
- data mining in multimedia (sound, image, videos) databases ; MediaCycle software
